Evelyn Ruth Buckley was born on June 1, 1910 to Gus B. and Evelyn Ruth Buckley of Fort Worth. Her father was a claims clerk for the Fort Worth and Denver City Railroad at the time of her birth. By the time Evelyn graduated from high school, her father was deputy clerk of the United States District Court. He was later the chief deputy unitl his death around 1942.
